WEEK 2 - DOWNERS GROVE NORTH
FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS was in full effect at Mustang Stadium last week. New video board, track, turf, perfect weather, and pink skies as the sunset. We honored thirty seniors and their families, the highest amount we have had in years. The Sophomore team opened the game with a thrilling victory that came down to the wire. The varsity team came out and looked like a team that had worked hard all summer and was ready to play. Saturday, the long-awaited debut of our 2028 class hit the turf for a thrilling victory, which included 2 TDs by the defense. On Monday, the Freshman B took on Wheaton North in a modified game and came up short.
This week, we are preparing for the CROSSTOWN RIVALRY game. We are eager to play in front of our community and represent everything HIT HARD is all about. We have been reminding our players that this game can not be won on SOCIAL MEDIA platforms like Twitter, Snap Chat, or Barstool. As parents and coaches, we ask for your support in reinforcing the message that the game is won on the field, in practice, and on game day. Social media is only a distraction and should be avoided. Rest assured, our team is fully committed to the game and ready to give their best.

VARSITY RECAP
Our program proudly celebrated our thirty Guardians (seniors) on Friday night. They are not just seniors, they are the top 1% of men at DGS, a testament to their elite commitment, work ethic, and courage as football players. We tell our players all the time that they are elite, and these Guardians embody that.
We look forward to watching them lead us through the rest of the season.
The coach's biggest concern on Friday night was how well we could run the ball and how well we would tackle. Those questions were answered in the first quarter as the Mustang defense came out and got a stop right away. The offense established a powerful run game that featured 4 running backs for a total of 254 yards. The offensive line was nasty, led by Spraggins, Cathcart, Klaeren, Cinco, and Taylor. Defensively, the Mustangs swarmed the ball with relentless effort. Mick Rapinchuk had a massive interception near the goal line that took away Metea's momentum.
We're gearing up for a fantastic week of practice and a thrilling test against another formidable program on Friday Night. Get your Blue on Blue ready to go! It's going to be an epic showdown that we can't wait to share with you all!
HIT HARD
SOPHOMORE RECAP
The Sophomore Mustangs kicked off the season excited to be the first football team to play on our brand new turf! We were motivated and up for the challenge of bringing home the first Victory of the season with a final score of 19-15!
The Mustang defense anchored the way throughout the game with a Pick-6 by Nick Majchrowicz, two fumble recoveries (Nick M. & Chris Cali) and a blocked FG (Mason Canik). The defense also had many big stands to get the ball back to the offense.
Offensively, the Mustangs got the run game going early with the first rushing TD by Nick Majchrowicz. Vincent Junkas added some big completions through the air to Antonio Evans, Alex Claiborne & Malik Wilder. Junkas also punched in the final go-ahead score on the ground to secure the "Battle of the Mustangs" victory!
Players of the week:
Defense: Nick Majchrowicz - Pick 6, Fumble Recovery & Rushing TD. Has been the anchor of the Mustang Defense all summer and it showed in week 1.
Offense: Antonio Evans - Made big plays rushing and receiving for the Mustangs and always displays a positive attitude and hard work ethic.
Special Teams: Kiro Hanna - Has helped the Mustangs in all three phases of the game. He stepped up making some difficult catches and punted the ball very well to give the Mustangs great field position.
Scout/Practice Team Player: Max Baltierra has stepped up at practice to help the Mustangs on all scout teams and has continually shown a team first attitude.
FRESHMEN A RECAP
The Mustangs kicked off their season with a decisive 25-6 victory over Metea Valley, powered by a stellar defensive effort and a dynamic offensive performance. The Mustang defense was relentless, stifling Metea Valley's offense and allowing just a single score. Luke Potter and Nate Thurston shone with key interceptions, each returning one for a touchdown and contributing significantly to the defensive success.
On offense, Will Mouser was a force to be reckoned with. Whether charging through the line or making plays out of the backfield, Mouser was nearly impossible to stop, leading the team with explosive plays and impressive yardage. Quarterbacks Ryker Czubak and James Sobkowiak split time effectively, each managing the game smoothly and ensuring the Mustangs maintained possession without any turnovers. Ryker Czubak emerged as the top scorer with two rushing touchdowns, demonstrating both agility and power.
With this strong performance under their belts, the Mustangs are eagerly anticipating their next challenge: a showdown against the crosstown rival Trojans at Downers North. Kickoff is set for 9am this Saturday, promising an exciting clash of local rivals.
FRESHMEN B RECAP
Throughout the week leading up to this past Monday, the Freshman B team put in quality practice time on the field and in the classroom while preparing for a showdown with Wheaton North High School. The team showed an understanding of pre-snap assignments and demonstrated their knowledge of the playbook day after day! While Monday did not provide us the results we were expecting as a team, our coaching staff is optimistic about the team's growth and development as football players and DGS Mustang community members. Looking ahead to week 2, the Mustangs have a big matchup with the purple team on the other side of town, and we are eager to bounce back and play to our full capability!
HIT HARD - THEME OF THE WEEK
HIT HARD THEME OF THE WEEK - INTEGRITY
This week we spent time talking about the word INTEGRITY. Having integrity as a DGS football player is a comprehensive commitment that permeates every aspect of an athlete's life. On the field, it means adhering strictly to the rules and spirit of the game, consistently giving maximum effort regardless of supervision, and maintaining high standards of conduct. As a teammate, integrity involves being reliable, standing up for what's right even when it's unpopular, and supporting others in maintaining ethical standards. In relationships with coaches, integrity is demonstrated through respect for team rules, honest communication, graceful acceptance of criticism, and appropriate confidentiality. Amongst teammates, it means treating everyone with respect, refusing to engage in or tolerate negative behaviors like bullying or hazing, and leading by example through consistent words and actions. As a student-athlete, integrity is reflected in academic honesty, effectively balancing athletic and academic responsibilities, positively representing the school in all settings, and adhering to eligibility requirements without seeking unfair advantages. This unwavering commitment to integrity not only builds trust and respect within the team and school community but also develops a strong character that will serve the athlete well beyond their high school football career.
