VARSITY RECAP
The Mustangs secured an incredible victory against Plainfield South in the first round of the IHSA playoffs. The game was close from start to finish, but we played with a resilient fervor that could not be tamed. After an impressive regular season, the boys asserted their playoff dominance and proved their place as conference champions.
Joey Vieyra was an offensive force, gaining us an essential first down and scoring the game-winning touchdown after his strong run put us in a scoring position. Ryker Dudley and Kayden Smith left everything on the field with their decisive runs to gain yardage. Keon Maggitt scored a touchdown after completing a spectacular catch, and Daniel Mensah was unstoppable as he ran into the endzone for a crucial touchdown.
On defense, Gavin Powels set the tone for the game, making big tackles and scoring a touchdown after he recovered the ball in the wake of a blocked Plainfield South field goal. Coen Godenschwager and Mick Rapinchuk were just as effective for the defense, both catching interception passes.
Antoine Hardin had a stand-out performance both ways. He had an excellent run on a kick return to help advance the team down the field and capitalized on that success with multiple catches and powerful runs. He played exemplary on defense, not only applying harsh pressure to the offense but also preventing a Plainfield South touchdown.
The Mustangs earned a home playoff game and displayed their will to make it far in the post-season with a grit-filled, determined attitude. They will take on Lyons Township High School next week, prepared to hit as hard as possible.
