DGS Parent & Fan Game Plan - WEEK 1

WEEK 1 - METEA VALLEY

Our coaches and players are excited to start the 2024 season in Mustang Stadium under the Friday night lights. Last Thursday night's Blue on Blue scrimmage for Freshman and Sophomores and last Friday night's Fall Sports Spectacular were a hit. It was great seeing all the families out supporting their players and the program.  It is was great to see our players back on the new turf under the bight lights.  This Friday our Sophomore team get the opportunity to start the football season off for our program and all levels look to go 1-0 at the end of the weekend. We look to show the state of Illinois what DGS football is all about.

VARSITY RECAP

We feel honored and supported by the community, the District 99 administration, and the school board for investing in and upgrading our facilities.   I always remind our players that people believe in our program, and it's up to us to give back through hard work and preparation.

We look forward to celebrating with everyone on Friday night.

SOPHOMORE RECAP

The sophomore team is set to light up the field in the first of two thrilling games, starting at 5PM. These young men have been working tirelessly all summer, honing their skills in offense, defense, and special teams, and they can't wait to showcase their talents under the Friday night lights.

The DGS coaches have crafted an impressive game plan to take on the Metea Valley Mustangs, and our players have been giving it their all in practice this week. The sophomore team is honored to lead the charge as the season opener and they're determined to start the night - and the season - off right with a decisive win. Don't miss this chance to cheer on our future stars and be part of the electric atmosphere as we kick off another great year of DGS football!

FRESHMEN A RECAP

The Downers Grove South Mustangs' freshman football team is eager to showcase their hard work and dedication to friends and family this weekend on the gridiron. After a summer of rigorous preparation, the team has seamlessly adapted to heat regulations and maintained highly productive practices each day this week. Their commitment is evident, and their progress is a testament to their perseverance. We extend our gratitude to our trainers, DJ and Hannah, as well as Coach Molinari and the DGS Administration for their unwavering support in securing excellent practice facilities. The Mustangs are ready to bring their best to the field and make their mark this season.

FRESHMEN B RECAP

Throughout out the week leading up to this past Monday, the Freshman B team put in quality practice time both on the field and in the classroom while preparing for a showdown with Wheaton North High School.  Throughout the week, the team showed an understanding of pre-snap assignments, and demonstrated their knowledge of the playbook day after day!  While Monday did not provide us the results we were expecting as a team, our coaching staff has no doubts the team will continue to grow as one, and develop as football players and DGS Mustang community members.  Looking ahead to week 2, the Mustangs have a big matchup with the purple team on the other side of town, and we are eager to bounce back and play to our full capability!

HIT HARD - THEME OF THE WEEK

HIT HARD THEME OF THE WEEK - HONEST

Being an honest DGS Mustang football player encompasses a wide range of behaviors and attitudes that extend far beyond the field. It means being truthful about one's physical condition and abilities, putting in genuine effort during practices and games, and avoiding performance-enhancing substances. An honest player takes responsibility for their mistakes, gives credit where it's due, and provides sincere feedback to teammates. With coaches, honesty manifests as open communication about playing time, position depth, and personal performance, as well as following through on commitments. Amongst teammates, it involves genuine interactions, addressing conflicts directly, and offering constructive feedback. As a student-athlete, honesty is demonstrated through academic integrity, accurate reporting of grades, and taking responsibility for time management. Honesty builds trust, strengthens team dynamics, and develops character, ultimately contributing to personal growth and the overall success of our program on and off the field.
