We are doing structural condensed matter physics.
Origins of various properties of materials are examined 
from atomic arrangements, 
which are clarified by synchrotron x-ray diffraction.

What is the reason why we can learn the materials' property from the structure?
Think about the force applied to an atom at position r.
F is the r-derivative of U, the total energy of the solid.
Let us assume the atomic position is shifted a little. 
 If U increases, the displacement is pushed back,and
 if U decreases, the displacement is enhanced.
U is affected not only by the elastic interaction, 
but also by magnetism or other various electronic properties.
This is the reason why we can learn a lot from atomic arrangements.

1st Prof. Tsuyoshi Kimura moved to Univ. of Tokyo, which makes Wakabayashi lab. started. 

March 2017
22nd    Congratulations! Mr. Masato Anada (M2) got the department head prize.  
19th      One of Prof. Wakabayashi's papers (J. Phys. Soc. Jpn. 2007) receives The 22nd Outstanding Paper Award of the Physical Society of Japan.
15th    Published a new paper:

“Structural deformation of the S=1 kagome-lattice compound KV3Ge2O9”

14th Congratulations! Mr. Masato Anada (M2) got a Poster prize  at quantum beam science festa.

機能構造科学入門 丸善 (2016).  Chapter 3, Surface/interface holography, was written by Prof. Wakabayashi.
