Digital Citizenship
"Digital citizenship is not so different from traditional citizenship. We still need to guide students to be kind, respectful and responsible. What’s new is teaching them how to apply these values to the realities of the digital age."
Overview
Every CRPS student needs to know how to make safe, responsible and respectful choices with digital media. Using a balanced approach, teachers will base lessons on a division-wide monthly theme to harness the potential for learning while recognizing the possible risks in the digital world. See the monthly resources in the sidebar.
Our educational technology committee has developed a K-12 scope and sequence that will enable students to think critically, behave safely and participate responsibly in digital environments. They are organized into the monthly themes seen on the left sidebar menu. In addition, specific programs are in place for Grades 5, 6 and 7.
Grade 5 students engage in the Be Internet Awesome game-based program where they learn digital safety through an online adventure.
All grade 6 students in CRPS complete the Everfi Ignition program, which places them "in virtual environments to tackle issues including privacy, security, cyberbullying, digital relationships, and the viral nature of the web".
In grade 7, A Day In the Life deals with topics important to today's teenagers.
"Our vision is that children and youth have the critical thinking skills to engage with media as active and informed digital citizens."
