Ethics and Statistics

What does 'ethics' have to do with the field of statistics?  It is far too easy for someone with is either unscrupulous or incompetent (or both) to mislead others when it comes to the application of statistical methods and interpretation of their results.

"Figures often beguile me, particularly when I have the arranging of them myself; in which case the remark attributed to Disraeli would often apply with justice and force: 'There are three kinds of lies: lies, damned lies and statistics.' "

Guidelines on Ethics have been developed by the American Statistical Association (ASA).
