I hope everyone has enjoyed the winter break and feels ready to come back to school next week or send your kids back. There are a few exciting things that I wanted to make you aware of.
First, To help with attendance the high school will be running three different incentives when we come back
  1. Each week on Friday the 1st hour classroom with the highest % of attendance for the week will get donuts. If there is a tie we will look at who had the best for two weeks. If there is still a tie I will reward all class that have the same highest % for two weeks.
  2. Each week I will do a couple of drawings for perfect attendance. Gifts will be things like subway cards, Itune card, skip a detention for attendance issues (tardy or absent). Things like that.
  3. The class (7th, 8th, 9th, 10th, 11th, & 12th) with the highest percentage of attendance between February 23rd and April 3rd will receive a field day on Friday, April 10th from 11:20 to 1:50 pm. We will do a barbecue, play games and music. I will post the status each week on the boarded up old high school entrance.
Next, we will be starting the student surveys regarding teaching practices in the classroom. These surveys will occur during pirate time and I will call each pirate time out twice over the next 2-3 weeks in order to get this done with out taking away from classroom time. The following is what we read to each student before they take the survey.
You are about to take a survey on the computer. The purpose of this survey is to help make your school better. This survey is very important to your school. Your teacher and principal will look carefully at the survey results to decide what aspects of teaching are good already and what aspects need to be improved. They value your opinion and ideas. Your responses will improve the quality of education for all the students who follow you. Please be careful and thoughtful when taking the survey. The survey will ask about your experiences with your teacher. Before you begin listen carefully to these instructions.
  • This survey asks what YOU believe to be true, not what other students believe. You should select the answer for how you HONESTLY feel.
  • You must work alone. You shouldn't talk during the survey, or look at another person’s answers.
  • There are no right or wrong answers; the survey is about your opinions and feelings.
  • You will not be graded on this survey.
  • Your answers will be anonymous to your teacher and principal. This means that they will not know how you personally answered each question. Your teacher and principal will only see how all the students as a group answered the questions. Please be completely honest.
  • Your participation in this survey is important, but it’s also voluntary. You are not required to take the survey and you can also skip questions on the survey that you don’t want to answer.
  • Please read the questions carefully. If you do not understand a word, raise your hand so I can define it for you.
We are excited to give the students more of a voice in what we do to improve education at our school. If you have any further questions or concerns regarding any of these new and exciting activities we are kicking off please let me know.
