The architects, who have been working on the shelter/gym design, have submitted their final drawings for approval. The building design has to meet FEMA codes for wind damage before it can be built. Once the final design is approved by FEMA, then CPISD will hire the construction company.

The storm shelter/gym grant money was not used on the hurricane damaged areas, as previously reported. The grant money is still available, but there have been complications within FEMA, causing the building process to be slow.

This building project is very important to Cross Plains Elementary. Updates will be posted as more news is available.

Parent Meeting Report

Thank you to all the parents, teachers, and community people who attended our School Solutions meeting.   Our discussion was very positive and productive.

I have attached a picture of the poster paper from our discussion.

Our discussion dealt with the overall school problems, and not individual issues.  All individual issues should be informally discussed with the campus principal and the teachers involved.

Here is a list of the items discussed:

  1. Everyone needs to know and understand the school handbook, code of conduct, and policy for informal and formal complaints.

  2.  Security  -  Car pick up line, cameras in halls, buzz in system, fences around elementary

  3. Technology  -  ipads in primary, new Promethean boards, books need to come home with homework, no internet at home.

  4. Bullying  -  Communicate between school and home; Educate the kids on the definition of bullying;  Kids need to self-check

  5. Enrich Learning  -  Motivational speakers; field trips; Math & Literacy night  (K-4)

  6. Incentives  -  Field Day races  -  ribbons

  7. Transfers  -  Personal issues not discussed in public meeting.

Please try to be at school everyday.
But when your sick,
stay home and get well.
Germs are contagious, and if you come
to school when you're sick, you can make others sick.
We love you, but not your germs!
REMEMBER to call when gone,
and bring a note when you come back.
