Antique Clock & Barometer Restoration and Repair

by

I provide a comprehensive, one-stop, holistic repair and restoration service for Antique clocks and Barometers, all under one roof. This means that I restore complete clocks or barometers or only a part, restoring it from the dead, or just a bit of TLC.

My Clock and Barometer services encompass

  • dial restorations
  • movement servicing
  • movement repairs
  • case restoration
  • case repairs

I work to the adage that we are not owners of antiques but curators. It is our duty to maintain these pieces while they are in our custody. My restorations and repairs are carried out sympathetically, leaving past repairs intact, unless they are hindering operation or have been very poorly executed. This leaves historical provenance for future reference. Pieces are not over cleaned if possible, leaving the patina which took years to acquire.

The first dial which I restored was a 30cm English dial in 1974. I have since restored well over 2000  dials ranging from a 3cm mantel clock dial through all varieties of Longcase dials up to 1.6m gilded public clock dials.

I use traditional skills and materials wherever possible, thus keeping to the conservation ethic.

Work may be brought in or posted to me by prior arrangement. Collection and delivery can be arranged where necessary.

Estimates can usually be given by email if enough information is provided.

For dial restoration, a good digital image is requested. Ideally, I prefer to actually handle the dial as so much more information is visible by the naked eye and the feel!
