Penny Wars is ending soon! Remember to sabotage other class’s jugs. 1st place is a Brownie Sundae Party, 2nd is cupcakes and 3rd is popsicles. All proceeds go to the Heartland Humane Society. Penny Wars end March 20th, this Friday.

Congratulations to the Farmin’ Hillbillies, they beat out 31 other teams to win the Region 2 OBOB tournament. They move on the STATE completion April 11th!

Students…please remember that when you are in the hall during passing time or break times your iPads should be “Off and Away”. Make sure your iPads are closed and latched shut using the elastic from the iPad cover to keep the cover shut. We have had a LOT of iPad breakage and it’s mostly due to being careless and not following the rules.

Today is the first day of track and field practice!  Bring anything you need for the evening and put it in the gym locker rooms, which will be locked during track practice.  Make sure you are in the small gym ready to work out by 3:50.

Students – the OBOB semi-finals battles will be held in the library during today. The Hot Pink Devils will be battling the Nerd Herd Nation in the purple area and the Book Creepers will battle the Farmin’ Hillbillies in the blue area. The library will be closed during lunch for any non-OBOB activities.

LPMS Track and field practice begins in 2 weeks!  Turn in those permission forms today!

There are still 8 spots left for the 2 Yogurt Extreme Walks scheduled for March 10th and 12th. Please see Mrs. McConnell to pick up a parent permission slip and pay your 20 PAWS. First come, first served! The first 6 students for each day to return their signed forms and 20 PAWS will get to go on the walk.

An unlocked bike has been found on campus.  If you are missing a bicycle please go to the office and describe it to see if your bike was found.

 Hi Pauling Pride!  This is Kaitlyn from Leadership.  I’m doing the 8th grade baby pictures for the yearbook.  If you’re an 8th grader and  you want your baby picture in the yearbook please write your name on the back, and your 1st period teacher and submit a picture to the yellow box in the office.  Your parents will also be getting an e-mail that gives directions on how to submit electronically.  You only have until March 4th to get your baby pictures turned in!! 

Leadership is hosting a 3 on 3 basketball tournament!  If you would like to participate at lunch in a couple of weeks, look for leadership students with sign-ups during lunch rotation!  Teams will be chosen randomly!

A community service club at CVHS, Corvallis Connect 7, is seeking donations of any new or lightly used winter wear (coats, hats, scarves, etc.).  The proceeds will be given to Community Outreach in preparation for the next winter season.  There is a donation box located in the office. 

Some of you might have noticed the posters going up around the school. They explain all the great benefits of volunteering as a crossing guard. All those who are or have been interested in joining our team, now is a great time to get some training. Schedules are also very flexible. Just pick up a blue application in the office and return it to Ms. Toplar either in the office or Room 101.

Linus Pauling Boys – Do you like playing basketball?  It is not too late to sign up for the Parks and Recreation middle school basketball league. There is more information in the school office.

Winter Garb Drive! A community service club at CVHS, Corvallis Connect 7, is seeking donations of any new or lightly used winter wear (coats, hats, scarves, etc.).  The proceeds will be given to Community Outreach in preparation for the next winter season.  This is a short donation drive so please take the weekend to assess the clothing you no longer wear or need, wash the items, and then bring them to school next week. There is a donation box located in the office. Thank you for making this possible Linus Pauling students and staff.

Students and staff it is time to nominate books for the Oregon Readers Choice Award.  Anyone can nominate a favorite book that was first published in 2013.  Pick up a nomination form in the library and nominate your book on-line.  Nominations close Feb. 28.  A list of books published in 2013 held in the Linus Pauling Library is on display in the library.

This is the last day to turn in your OSU field trip forms to the front office.  You must have a parent or guardian signature on the permission form by the end of the day, in order to go on the field trip.  We will not be accepting permission forms tomorrow morning.

The class will culminate with a cooking competition, complete with guest judges.

Congratulations to the LP cross country teams who raced in their last regular season meet yesterday in the pouring rain.  The girls team finished 1st out of 8 teams, while the boys finished a close 2nd out of 10 teams led by Logan Hannigan Downs.
This weekend a select group will race in the middle school state championship in Oregon City.  Go Pride!

Photo retake day is today! Students who did not have pictures taken in September even if you are not ordering photos you need to come down for your ID and yearbook photo. Any students who need to have their photo retaken should come down to the commons when your grade is called as well. If you wish to order additional photos please pick up a photo packet in the front office. If you ordered photos late and did not receive them yet the photo on your id card is the one that will be going in the yearbook.

Volleyball Open Gym.  Do you want to play volleyball with your friends but you do not want to commit to several practices each week?  Here is the perfect opportunity.  The Parks & Recreation department will be opening up the Cheldelin gym each Saturday morning from 10:00 – 11:00 for an open gym volleyball time.  There will be some instruction, some scrimmages and a ton of fun.  Don’t miss out.  The cost is only $5.00 per week or you can preregister for the whole program.  Check in the office for flyers with more information.

This is a reminder to all students that during Passing Time, Break, Lunch and Rec Time your iPads need to be “Off and Away”. The only place you are should be using your iPad is during class time or in the Library. Please do not leave your IPads in the halls during lunch or between classes.  Use your locker to store your IPad.  Staff have been asked to take abandoned iPads to the library so that they do not get damaged.

Finding the Light is a suicide awareness and prevention Walk that will be next Wednesday, October 1th. If you would like to participate meet at the Gazebo in Central Park at 7:00pm. This even is to raise awareness, support our families and friends, and connect with each other.

Enjoy social time, have fun and learn to love the game of volleyball by playing in the Parks & Recreation Department league this fall.  Practices are right after school twice each week with one game each week on Saturday.  For more information, there are posters around the school and flyers in the office.  Don’t let your spot be taken by someone else.  Register today!

Homework Club will begin Sept. 29th in room 102 right after school every Monday and Wednesday and run until 4:25. Please bring your homework, IPads and any text book you need to complete your homework. If you want to sign-up for Homework Club get a form in the office.

There will be a Boys and Girls Club Dance this Friday, September 26th from 7:00 to 10:00 PM.  It is a fun, social place for kids in 6th-8th grades to be with their friends.  Activities will include a Dance Floor, Open Gym, Open Teen Room, Food, Drinks and Prizes! Cost is $6 with a BGCC card, $7 without a club membership. Student ID is required for entry and School Dress Code will be enforced.

Today our cross country student athletes will compete in the Corvallis Middle School Cross Country Challenge at Crystal Lake Park against athletes from 14 schools.  All cross country runners will be released at 2:40.  After the announcement, bring everything you need for the evening to the Commons.

Students…listen up…you need to know this! If you are using your iPad at home it will prompt you for a user name and password. Your at home user name is “john” and your password will be “john”.

Today is recycling day! Please put the recycle bins outside your classroom now so Mrs. Hibbert’s wonderful students can pick it up.

The front bike rack has been getting overcrowded.  There are additional bike racks and the bike cage on the north side of the building by the outdoor basketball court.  Where ever you do park your bike – please be sure to lock it up.

The auditorium and the library will be closed during lunch break all week because of the iPad checkout. The library will be closed to all students except for Ms. Miranda’s XLT classes and those students that are checking out iPads all day, all week long.

This week the 6th graders are doing Outdoor School. This week 7th graders will eat 1st rotation and 8th will eat 2nd

Ipads are being checked out this week through your science class. If a technology form was sent home with you yesterday be sure to have your parents sign it, you need to sign it AND return it to the office as soon as possible. If we do not have a signed form on file you will not be able to pick up your ipad with the rest of your class. Also, it will help with the checkout process if you bring your student ID card with you to check out.

Crossing guards are needed before and after school, schedules are flexible to meet personal needs. There are a lot of incentives to being a part of the Safety Team so if you are interested, sign up to attend the informational meeting. Ipads will be checked out to students starting next week during your science classes. It will be very helpful if you bring your student ID card with you on your day to checkout your iPad. Your teachers will let you know which day your class is scheduled to checkout.

Students, please remember to bring your Student ID cards with you when you come to the library to check out textbooks. If you have your ID number memorized that’s good too! It speeds up the textbook checkout line a lot if you have your card out or know your ID number!
