About Us

Welcome and thank you for your interest in Linus Pauling Middle School!  LPMS is one of three public middle schools serving students in grades six through eight in beautiful Corvallis, OregonLearn more about the Corvallis Community by clicking here.

Dedicated in 2004, Linus Pauling is one of the newest schools in Corvallis and built on a spacious campus including the Corvallis Boys and Girls Club and the Osborn Aquatic center.  In 2006, the U.S. Green Building Council awarded Linus Pauling Middle School Silver Status for Leadership in Efficiency and Environmental Design (LEED).  Our mascot is the PRIDE, and the staff, students, and community take great pride in our facility through recycling and frequent community service in and around our school.

The vision of Linus Pauling Middle School is to grow world-class learners, engaged citizens, and leaders of the future.  Our namesake comes from two-time Nobel Award winning scientist Linus Pauling (1901 to 1994). Both Dr. Pauling and his wife Ava Helen attended Oregon State University as undergraduate students.  Dr. Pauling gifted his papers to the special collections of OSU.  Click here to learn more about the collection.  Dr. Pauling is the only person to have received two unshared Nobel Prizes.  He received one prize for chemistry in 1954 and the other for peace in 1962.  Dr. Pauling was a passionate learner and engaging instructor who cared deeply about humanity.  During our weekly advisory class called Pride, we learn about many of Linus Pauling's positive traits such as empathy, courage, and perseverance.

Our school serves over 700 wonderful students from a variety of socioeconomic and ethnic backgrounds.  Along with comprehensive core instruction, Linus Pauling offers an array of opportunities through electives, early bird offerings, after school athletics, and learning clubsLPMS values languages and is the host middle school for the Corvallis school district's dual immersion (DI) program.  About one-fourth of our students participate in DI, which offers students two periods of instruction each day in Spanish.  We also take pride that we have students at LPMS who are served by the caring staff in our Life Skills and CLASS (Creating Life and School Success) programs.  At the end of eighth grade, a majority of our students attend Corvallis High SchoolClick here to learn more about the Corvallis School District.

It would be impossible to share all of the amazing attributes of our tremendous learning community.  Early adolescence is a time of rapid change in human development.  For this reason, we place high priority on building positive relationships with our students, families, and community.  We also understand that our rapidly changing world requires that we prepare students for the 21st century with knowledge and skills such as critical thinking, teamwork, and technology.  We are working hard to increase communication to foster a culture of collaboration which is essential for fulfilling the aforementioned vision.  We invite you to join us on our journey!

Thank you again for visiting!
