Spartapalooza June 1st

Hi, all! Our last hurrah (concert!) approaches on June 1st. Here is what you need to know!

 

Spartapalooza – our final choir concert- is June 1st.

 

Attire: SAME as previous concerts as of today. I’ll let you know if circumstances change.

 

Date for Dress Rehearsal: Dress rehearsal (no need to wear formal attire) is May 31st after school until 6:30 when we are removed from the theater for the CHS senior slideshow. Senior soloists may need to stay after in the choir room unless things are moving quickly! Bring a snack (no food or drinks in the theater) or plan to eat following the dress rehearsal.

 

Time: The June 1st concert starts with senior solos that are open to the public! Please join us! 5:30 pm. All students are called at this time to celebrate the seniors and say goodbye.

 

What to bring: Please have your student bring a dessert to share by 5:25 pm if they are not graduating! The Muses are graciously putting together our dessert reception for the seniors and their families. Please label any trays you would like returned.

 

When to eat dinner: On June 1st, I would recommend eating before the 5:30 call. If there are leftover treats after the awesome seniors and their families have feasted, you can have them after the concert.

 

When to arrive to watch: Usually we open doors at 6:40 for 7 pm concerts, but I recommend coming to senior solos and grabbing a good seat for the concert by 5:30. This one can fill up quickly.  

 

Who to bring: Anyone and everyone! All alumni should expect to jump on stage to sing the alma mater, and SAC alumni may have a surprise as well (they should check facebook).

 

Length of Concert: I keep concerts during  year at 75 minutes for five choirs, but this one has some awards, surprises, a live band, and alumni appearances and will likely be a bit longer. Not to worry, it will be incredibly entertaining and feature some great tunes and blasts from the past!

 

Cost to Attend: Free! But, please donate on your way in or out. Concert Choir was gifted a piece for FREE called Love Is which mashes up the text from Corinthians (Love is patient, love is kind) with Lin Manuel Miranda’s Tony Award acceptance speech (love is love is love is love)! The living composer’s request in the absence of payment is to give a donation to a service in our community that performs acts of love. The kids have some great ideas, and we will donate some of our door money to the program the students select! One piece for one choir for one concert costs anywhere from $100-160 so I would like to donate at least that amount.

Pastinis Dine Out

Solo Ensemble Opportunity

Some of you study voice privately and are excited about the opportunity to perform for certified adjudicators. There is a wonderful event on March 4th at Benton Hall at OSU called Solo and Ensemble. See the attached for registration information.  Everything will be due Thursday in order to be scheduled.

 

  • Registration Deadline: Friday, February 10th
  • Payment Deadline: Wednesday, February 15th
  • Contest Date: Saturday, March 4th
  • Contest Location: Benton Hall - OSU

 

Choralpalooza - Elektra, Man Choir, Muses - February 11th

Choralpalooza is our wonderful 5th grade through 12th grade district wide choral event! This year we are bringing in a clinician to work with the high school groups, and we are looking forward to our new layout! The event is held at CVHS this year, and the schedule is detailed below.

 

Where: CVHS auditorium

When: February 11th

Times:  Women check in 11:30 am, released 12:30 pm

                Men check in 12:15 pm, released 1:15 pm

                (free to stay at CV, do homework, bring snacks, watch the MS and elementary)

All groups check in at 3:00 pm for a 3:10 group rehearsal. Stay for duration of 5:00 concert (hour at most)

Concert: 5 pm and free to all. Space is limited, however.

Attire:   Formal tops (black and the Elektra scarves for all women, black dress shirt and ties for men) and jeans on the bottom. I will email you if this changes to FULL formal attire.

Transport: Please have your student there at the check in times and pick them up following the concert in the CV band room. 6 pm is a good guess. There will be teachers there all day supervising if your student wants to bring other work, spend time with friends, or observe the clinician.

 

Although Choralpalooza is not taking place on a school day this year, I would still like a permission slip signed and returned so I can have emergency contact info on hand. Please see attached for the permission slip.

Pastinis Pastathon!

Eat out for a good cause MONDAY AND TUESDAY! I shall be enjoying that roasted butternut squash gorgonzola ravioli in a brown butter sauce with sage. Nomnomnom. Order beverages, order apps and ‘serts. Treat yo’self. You deserve it.

 

Make sure your server stamps the receipt so we get the proceeds – have them stamp the receipt with the Pastathon stamp while you watch. Some servers do it the first time you mention the fundraiser, some don’t! 50% makes this a HUGE fundraiser for us.

 

Also, mark your calendars for December 6th – 5-8pm at Burgerville.
