Out of the Box - Traveling museum

Post date: Apr 8, 2013 1:42:08 AM

The “Out of the Box” project, in conjunction with “Erie Yesterday”, involves creating a traveling museum box that will visit local schools, senior citizens, and other organizations.  Eight historical societies and museums have committed to participating in the project. Our wooden box will contain artifacts, information, and activities that will tie local history to the common core standards that Pennsylvania schools are incorporating into the classroom.  We are building our 1st traveling trunk with a focus on local railroad systems, the Climax locomotives that were built here, and trains in general.  We hope to develop interest in the history of the region, build excitement about the railway system (past, present, and future), and infuse classroom lessons with worthwhile activities.   If you have any items of interest that you would like to donate to this “traveling museum”, please contact Ann Clark at 462-4462.
