Chromebooks are small laptops that can run an array of web-based programs. Starting this year, all CCS grade 3-8 students will have a Chromebook to use at school and grade 5-8 students will be allowed to take their Chromebooks home if parents agree. Look for more information coming soon!

Summer Reading

posted Jul 25, 2017, 1:16 PM by Michael Croft

Becoming a reader is so important for young people as they develop fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension skills. We hope that your family is participating in the Governor’s Summer Reading Challenge- information went home in June- please ask if you need more.

Reading to children has tremendous benefits as youngsters, especially reluctant readers, increase vocabulary and are exposed to a range of ideas that will help with understanding once they learn to love to read. If you don’t love to read, you haven’t found the right book yet! Below are suggested reading lists from the Connecticut State Library:

Middle School Supplies

posted Jul 25, 2017, 9:50 AM by Michael Croft

We have supplies for each middle school student here at CCS. Each student will receive a set of supplies on the first day of school: binders, notebooks, paper, pencils, etc. Of course, families can decline to take the set and buy it themselves, but they might want to wait until after that first day.

Faculty Update

With Mrs. West on sabbatical to pursue graduate school work in STEM Education, Ms. Beth Frost will serve as science teacher next year. Ms. Frost is a Cornwall resident who has diverse experience teaching science, most recently at Danbury High School. She has also taught middle school and high school science in New Hampshire and Arizona and has been head of school at a grade 1-9 independent school in New Mexico.

With Mrs. Magyar's departure to lead Salisbury Central School, we will also have a new English teacher. In the spring, Ms. Jenny Law announced her departure from Kellogg School where she has been principal for almost five years. When she formally leaves Kellogg in August, she'll join us at CCS as a part-time English Language Arts teacher. Before her time at Kellogg, Ms. Law taught enrichment, science, and English at Salisbury Central, including ten years of teaching English. At CCS she will teach two sections of 5/6 ELA among other duties. This is a good fit all around as Ms. Law wants to work fewer hours and is looking forward to being back in the classroom!
