Patricia R. Martinez, Ed.D.
Licensed Psychologist and Marriage and Family Therapist
Dr. Patricia Martinez is a licensed psychologist and a licensed marriage and family therapist who has maintained a private practice in the FM 1960 community since 1983, consulting with individuals, couples, and families, both children and adults. She especially enjoys working with couples, teaching them tools to repair their relationship so that they can work together respectfully in a loving, caring way without acting out and passing onto their children adaptive, dysfunctional, disrespectful, nonrelational behaviors that create and maintain separation. Such behavior perpetuates further injury, not only to the marital relationship, but also to the children in the marriage and the latter's subsequent selection of a life partner and the raising of their children. Dr. Martinez believes that the repair and healing that occurs in couples' work produces the groundwork for changing and creating healthy families and children now and in future generations.
Dr. Martinez has studied and trained with several nationally known professionals who have developed major models in working with couples, ie., Dr. Harville Hendrix, Dr. Pat Love, Dr. Joyce Buckner, Terry Real, and Pia Melody. As a certified Imago Therapist and Couples Workshop Presenter, Dr. Martinez conducted many couples' workshops for several years and witnessed significant changes in many couples' relationships. While licensed as a psychologist and marriage and family therapist, Dr. Martinez sees herself more as a relationship coach who assists others in creating the kind of life and relationships they want in life. She believes that to the extent you have love and connection in your life, you will have a life that works.
Dr. Martinez is a member of various professional psychological organizations at the local, state, and national levels, including the American Psychological Association, Council for the National Register of Health Service Providers in Psychology, and the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy. She is also certified in the National Register of Certified Group Psychotherapists as a group psychotherapist. She is a past-president of the Women's Business Forum, a professional woman's networking group in the FM 1960 area, and in 2000 received The Federation of Houston Professional Women's highest honor, The Woman of Excellence Award. Being a breast cancer survivor, it is Dr. Martinez's priviledge to work with individuals experiencing cancer, or families caring for a loved one with cancer or who was lost to cancer.
