Have you ever wondered how the atomic bomb was made? How does it create such a big explosion? What materials were used to make it? All of these questions can be answered by the nonfiction book Bomb, which was written by Steve Sheinkin. This book tells how the first atomic bomb was created during WWII, a project led by a man named Robert Oppenheimer . Bomb has won numerous awards including the Excellence of Young Adult Nonfiction Award and the Robert F. Sibert Medal. Steve Sheinkin had very accurate details throughout the book, which really helped to create a better understanding of the setting. Sheinkin also divided the book up well. Each individual chapter would usually include different characters and situations than the previous one, so it helped keep the book interesting all the way to the end. Something Sheinkin also did was include occasional pictures throughout the book, which gave a better understanding of the characters and settings. Furthermore, Sheinkin proved his book was accurate by providing credible sources after the story. Steve Sheinkin’s Bomb told the true and compelling story of the atomic bomb, and it’s definitely a great read for all middle schoolers.
