SIPLA Meeting 3/21/2013

            -          Only e-board in attendance

            -          Attempted to change names at bank unsuccessful forgot minutes will meet over break to change presidents over, remaining members will be changed during the term.

            -          Meeting close at 12:42

 

 

SIPLA Meeting 3/7/13 at noon.

            -          Meeting called to order 12:02

            -          Review of Panel Event

            -          Elections:

o   President: Kristin Blevins is stepping down Laura Gnyp has been elected according to the bylaws

o   Vice-President: Pam Jeppson (Hansen) remains vice president

o   Secretary: Mike Light II elected to replace Monica Bansal

o   Treasurer: Naveen Kayshap elected to second term

o   Web-Master: Francis Lee elected—position created for him.

-          Meeting called to close 12:45

SIPLA Event on 2/21/13:

            -          Tackling IP: Career advice for law students

-          This took the place of the third meeting of the term next meeting to be held on the 7th for election notice regarding elections distributed and shared at first meeting.

            -          Meeting called to order at 12:01
      -          E-mail to go out regarding attendance not being where it should be

-          No members attendance nor e-board Mike Light only member to show we closed the meeting at 12:15

 

SIPLA Meeting 1: 1/31/2013

 

Academic event: Looking for a networking opportunity between campuses.  (LAN, AH, AA, and DE to GR) Feb 21 – lunch at noon.  Live body in every campus but more Q&A driven. 

-          Look for catering companies,

-          ask about food allergies

 

Second Academic event – JD LLM talk

-          Talk with someone in pharmaceuticals


Volunteering: Fundraiser for Professor Prygoski – Kristin to send out email

            à Carpooling to Depot Town – close to Ann Arbor


PTO tour – March 1st – check with Lauren

 

Social: brainstorming à brewery tours in Detroit.  Could fundraise for a bus to Detroit and most tours are free.

 

Idea à going to the firm and going to a bar like the Firm and piggybacking with Bretz’s band.

            2. General Business

a. Organization purpose

i. The purpose of this organization is to promote excellence in intellectual property law.  To accomplish its mission, SIPLA shall further the objectives of this Chapter; create a forum for the exchange and expression of law students’ viewpoints; stimulate the interest and participation of law students in the area of intellectual property law; conduct programs of interest and value to law students; assist in the development and improvement of professional relationships with local IP practitioners; and promote the involvement of law students in public service activities.

SIPLA Meeting October 24, 2011 


- John White from the Practicing Law Institute came to talk to the Cooley SIPLA students across all the campuses about:

- who is qualified to take the Patent Bar Examination,
- when you should take the Patent Bar Examination,
- the Impacts that the American Invents Act will influence the Patent Bar Examination, and
- recommendations on how to adequately prepare for the Patent Bar Examination.
