As Assistant Head of Conserve School, I supervise the educational program and teachers, make sure all of the programs and personnel at Conserve School work together smoothly, and step in for the Head of School when he is off campus.
I have lived on campus at Conserve School since 2001, a year before Conserve School opened. In addition to being first Academic Dean and then Assistant Head of School, I have taught Seminar, Social Psychology, Introduction to Research Methods, and Colleges and Careers here. Two of my sons graduated from Conserve School.
Conserve School has many unique features that make it a one-of-a-kind school and a wonderful working environment. I love the stunning natural beauty of our location and the acres of wildland that surround us; I am inspired by working with eager, curious, fully engaged young learners; I enjoy skiing, gardening, and going for long walks on our 1200 acres; and I deeply appreciate the opportunity to develop and supervise a progressive educational program in collaboration with experienced, dedicated teachers.
I am always looking for something new to learn and enjoy participating in professional development. For the past few years, I have been focusing on improving my skills in technology, and this August I received a master's degree in educational technology from Michigan State University. (See my master's program capstone portfolio here.) My goal for the year is to share what I've learned through these courses with the teachers and students at Conserve School. As part of that goal, I've set up a Google Apps for Education domain at Conserve School to make it easier for students and teachers to share their ideas online, with the option of making their shared web documents available to the public, available to invited visitors, or available only within the Conserve community.
