Leanna Jackan, Science Teacher

Hello and welcome to my Teacher Page!  Our lovely planet Earth has fascinated me for as long as I can remember.  These feelings of awe and wonder prompted me to pursue Biology and Environmental Studies for my undergraduate degree (Viterbo University, La Crosse, WI) and Natural Resources and Environmental Education for my graduate degree (University of Wisconsin - Stevens Point).

During my undergraduate experience I had opportunities to participate in research with the US Geological Survey, travel to Belize for class, and generally live and learn in the Driftless region.  Graduate school brought me to Conserve in 2011 in order to be a member of the second Graduate Fellowship cohort and I haven't left since!

My personal philosophy is that a teacher is more of a facilitator rather than an all-knowing fount of wisdom.  I believe that learning about the environment extends beyond the classroom and encompasses far more than any textbook can contain.  I hope that my students will make a personal connection with their environment and I hope that what they learn will inspire them to great things!
