It is the mission of the Columbia County Controllers office to safeguard the County’s financial success and growth by preventing fraud, identifying waste and reducing inefficiency. By acting as the watchdog of County residents the Controller protects the taxpayer’s investment in their County Government. The Department strives to provide oversight and leadership into the financial affairs of Columbia County.
What we do...
As Columbia County’s first Controller/Auditor, Ron Caponera is the chief auditing officer of Columbia County. The Department audits all bills paid by Columbia County; maintains records of appropriations, funds and expenditures; scribes approved methods of accounting for County officers and administrative units; examines all requisitions to certify the availability of funds and to encumber such funds for expenditure and handles the retirement calculations and pensions. Furthermore, the Department maintains the General Ledger and assists in implementing the yearly budgets, as well as overseeing the payroll, insurance and travel for county employees.
