The County Clerk and DMV offices are open to the public.  Appointments are required for ONLY permit tests and license upgrades/reciprocities.  All other transactions are walk-in, first come first served.  Masks are required, all are welcome!

 
We are still not staffed to answer the phones but you can email Holly at holly.tanner@columbiacountyny.com and she will get back to you ASAP!

 All other clerk business - deeds, record room, pistol permit, passports - no appt needed, do NOT wait in the DMV line if there is one outside.  Go right to the door and tell the deputy you are going to the Clerk office.

The DMV is back to regular hours, 9am to 4:45pm, 6:30pm on Thursdays.  The Clerk's office is open 9am to 4:45pm, Monday thru Friday and are closed from noon to 1:00pm for lunch.

Appointments are required for permit tests (CDL, D and M) and most license transactions (upgrades & reciprocities)  Appointments have their own line, starting at the side street door, going down towards Warren St.

The lines for vehicle transactions can be VERY LONG.  Please be prepared to wait (drink, umbrella, chair, book) we work the line as fast as we can but we are not full staffed.  You can always do a drop off (there is a box by the door, we can take license plate surrenders now!) or you can MAIL your transaction (you need all your forms and form of payment) to avoid waiting in line!! THANK YOU FOR YOUR PATIENCE AND CONSIDERATION OF OTHERS IN THE LINE!  PLEASE WEAR YOUR MASK!  All are welcome!

We are now accepting appointments for permit tests, CDL tests and license transactions including upgrades.

Mandatory e-filing is expected to begin November 20, 2019.  For e-filing FAQ's click here or visit www.nycourts.gov/efile for more information. Beginning November 20, 2019, all legal papers must be filed by electronic means, unless they qualify for special exemption.  Additionally, legal papers required to be e-filed that are mailed to the County Clerk's office for filing must be postmarked before this date to avoid rejection.

An Order from the Supreme Court of New York County (Index # 452328/2016) has been filed
in all New York State County Clerk’s Offices by the Attorney General’s Office that vacates 
certain Default Judgments filed by Leucadia National Corp, L-Credit, LLC, LR Credit LLC, and LR Credit 1-23, LLC.

 If you have a judgment against you filed by one of the entities listed above, please contact your County Clerk’s Office. 


IMPORTANT NOTICE FOR PISTOL PERMIT HOLDERS
Recertification is still going on in NYS.  You have to recertify your permit with the NYS Police within FIVE years of your issue date!  This is an ongoing process that has not stopped.

FAILURE TO DO THIS WILL RESULT IN YOUR PERMIT BEING REVOKED!
The (Safe Act) law states (in essence) "...failure to re-certify shall result in your pistol permit being revoked..."

If you have a Columbia County permit and are unable to show proof of re-certification 

YOU WILL BE REVOKED in Columbia County!!

Meaning you will have to start over with an application, background check, references, etc.
