Lifelines Suicide Prevention Curriculum for Parents

Monday, November, 5th 6-7 pm at Collinsville Middle School Library

This one-hour presentation will provide basic information about youth suicide.  It will provide an overview of the school’s response program, as well as brief guidelines for parental response to suicidal behavior.  Resources for additional information on suicide prevention and community support services will also be provided.  Lifelines is framed in the context of the “competent community”.  By the end of the presentation, participants will be able to:

1)      Describe the prevalence of youth suicide

2)      Explain the reasons for the school’s decision to present a student unit on suicide prevention

3)      Identify at least three topics covered in the Lifelines Prevention student curriculum

4)      Explain how discussing suicide does not plant the idea in anyone’s mind

5)      Describe at least four guidelines for talking about suicide with their children

Maureen Underwood, the author of the Lifelines program, will be presenting this training.  We are excited to have her travel from Dallas, TX to provide us with this important information.
