Who we are...

The Oz project (TOP) is a drama and music recreational program that creates an environment where all children can be successful.  With an emphasis on inclusion, this program will provide support for the full participation of children with a wide range of abilities, including those with autism-specturm whom research has shown can benefit from theater workshops. We hope that this project will serve as a catalyst for the social and emotional growth of all the students involved by structuring the activities to promote social connection among the children participating, as well as an understanding and appreciation of each others' differences. The children will learn to work as part of a team, make new friends, and become more comfortable with the challenges of social situation. In its first year, TOP centered on a production of the Wizard of Oz. Since then the scope has broadened to produce other plays while still maintaining the core themes of acceptance and inter-connectedness. This year, the children will present a musical play entitled Character Matters: Lessons from our Fairy Tale Friends. Just as each fairy tale character can learn something new and helpful from each of their fairy tale friends, we anticipate that those involved with TOP will have fun while still learning about the possibilities of unexpected companionship and discovering self-confidence and determination within themselves. We hope that you can join us on our journey through the magical world of fairy tale fun!

"We've got to show a story that features

Fairy tale folk and fairy tale creatures

Trying to live and dealing with each other

Like you and me they soon will discover

Character matters!"
