Monograph: Single volume, one time publication. No parts/volumes or dates in SuDocs number or title.
Multi-part monograph: A publication with multiple parts or volumes, but with a fixed ending date of publishing (i.e. will not continue indefinitely), e.g. appropriations hearings, Encyclopedia Britannica. Each part will have an item record.
Look for parts/volumes in SuDocs number.
Serial: A publication with multiple parts or volumes issued over time, each part bearing a numeric or chronological designation, and intended to continue indefinitely. Each volume/part will have an item record.
Look for dates or volumes/parts as part of the SuDocs number or in the title.
