The Colchester Summer Lunch Program is a non-profit project designed to provide free lunches to families that have children who receive free or reduced price lunches during the school year.
Sometimes, it becomes difficult for a family to take care of all aspects of their lives, and usually the first thing to suffer is nutrition. This is a problem, since the most basic need of all, is to eat not only enough, but also healthily. In official studies after WWII, malnutrition during childhood was directly linked to physical shortcomings in adulthood. This fact explained why so many drafted soldiers were ill suited for Army life.
This is the reason for the original conception of government endorsed, free and reduced lunches at schools. School lunch programs actually get reimbursed for offering quality meals to all students, including those who might not be able to regularly afford them.
