Plant a Row for the Hungry

Are you in the midst of planting a vegetable garden? The Colchester Food Shelf asks that you join us in helping to provide fresh, local produce to those we serve in the community who may not otherwise be able to afford it. By adding just one extra row of vegetables in your garden, you will have additional bounty to harvest and share with those most in need. The following vegetables keep well and are offered as suggestions for you to consider planting extra to donate: green or wax beans, peas, tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, onions, carrots, potatoes, zucchini, and squash. When possible, vegetables should be dropped off on Tuesday mornings so that we can distribute all the produce between Tuesday and Thursday.

Looking for Ways to Help?

There are many ways that you can connect with the food shelf but here are at least four ways:

DONATE MONEY OR FOOD ITEMS:
High demand food items are: pasta sauce, peanut butter, jellies, hearty soups, canned fruits and non-refrigerated juices.

If you are making a donation, please do your best to come by the food shelf during our regular hours. Tuesday/Thursday 11-1:30 p.m. and Wednesday 3:30-6:00 p.m.

VOLUNTEER A FEW HOURS A MONTH: Most volunteers sign up for one shift a month (2.5 hours). If you would like to hear more about what is involved, please call the food shelf, 879-2444, and leave your name and contact information. We will return you call. You can also email Marcia at marciadevino@colchesterfoodshelf.org.

SHOP ON AMAZON SMILE: If you are an Amazon shopper, look at using AmazonSmile, where you can list your favorite charity. Of course, we would suggest the Colchester Community Food Shelf Inc. Quarterly, they will donate 0.5% of the purchase price of eligible products to the food shelf.

USE the services of the food shelf if you need help. For some, it is hard to go to places like the food shelf but know that we are there to help you through some difficult times. The only requirement is that you show proof that you are a Colchester resident, such as a utility bill. When things are better and you don’t need us anymore, you can DONATE or VOLUNTEER.

Thank you again for your support.
