Writing Center Staff Retreat 2010
Nicknamed "The Mecca of Random Conversation," the Coe Writing Center is a place for students to talk about composition, the meaning of life, or any other topic. Students can bring papers in at any stage of the writing process, be it blank assignment sheet or polished final draft, and have a personalized meeting with one of nearly 75 writing center consultants on staff. Consultants come from all majors and fields of study, ensuring that no matter the class, professor, or assignment, conferences are productive and helpful to student writers.

The Writing Center plays an integral role shaping and developing the Writing Across the Curriculum Program at Coe. This program, initiated in 1986, sought to ensure all students at Coe were proficient in writing and to create distinct methodologies of teaching writing for specific disciplines.

The Writing Center has regular business hours during the semester, listed on the right. When the Writing Center is open, students are free to come by and conference with any of the on duty consultants. Students can also call the Writing Center at 319-399-8743 to schedule an appointment with a consultant of their choice. A current staff schedule showing which consultants work at each hour the Writing Center is open can be located at the front desk and is available online here.

The Writing Center is located in Gage Annex, behind the Coe Bookstore. Home to an art exhibit, two zebras, and the cheapest coffee you can find on campus, the Writing Center is a unique and vibrant part of the Coe community.
