Camp Christos General Information

Our Purpose:

    The spiritual re-creation of each individual camper. Our goal is to provide a safe and remote setting where a child’s faith is strengthened by God’s Word and their body is refreshed through recreation in God’s beautiful world.

2019 Dates and Times:

    Sunday, August 4, at 4:00 pm through Friday, August 9, at 12:00 noon. For insurance reasons, early arrivals are not allowed. Camper registration and check-in runs from 4:00 - 6:00 pm on Sunday, August 4. At the end of the camp on Friday please make arrangements to pick up your child(ren) promptly.

Location and Amenities:

    Camp Christos is held at a Camp Elkanah, which is a Christian camp in La Grande, OR.  The camp is l
ocated on 186 acres of beautifully forested land SW of La Grande off of OR244.  The camp has a kitchen/dining hall, 22 cabins, a chapel building, rec hall (with ping pong, air hockey, foosball), hiking trails, basketball court, sand volleyball court, playground, a zip line, a giant swing, a low ropes challenge course, mini golf, archery, softball field, horseshoes and is adjacent to Meadow Creek.  

Enrollment:

    Enrollment is open to youth ages 9-16 from all WELS/ELS congregations. Other children are welcome to attend provided they have a local WELS/ELS pastor’s approval and a spot is available.

Camp Staff:

    
The Camp directors, Camp medic, Bible study leaders, activity coordinators, cooks (with food handling permits from the Department of Health) and camp counselors are all volunteers and are active members from many Pacific Northwest WELS congregations.

Activities:

    Bible study and topic discussions, music, arts & crafts, sports, campfires, daytime & evening games, and morning & evening devotions.

NEW IN 2019!  Overnight Survival Shelter Course
     For our campers entering 9th grade and older, we are offering a new Overnight Survival Shelter Course.  Campers will experience building and sleeping in a natural shelter that is built by a team of 2 campers and slept in overnight with minimal engagement from staff after bedtime to enhance the experience of isolation.  If you are interested in learning more, click YES on the Camper Registration Form and more detailed information will be sent to you via email.  The course will be limited to 16 campers.

Cost (includes meals and snacks, cabins, T-shirt, supplies, equipment use and insurance):

Two or more from same family............................... $175 each
