What's Happening?

After a memorable year, the Cocalico Food Service Department has stocked up and is excited to share a few new things with you!

This summer, the Cocalico Food Service Department was proud to partner with local churches to provide lunches for district students and families every Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday at our local parks. The Summer Lunch Program was a great success and we look forward to continuing the program next summer. We hope to add the Adamstown park into our rotation of Denver, Reamstown and Reinholds area parks. In addition to the Summer Lunch Program, three of our staff members attended a Culinary Boot Camp hosted by Project PA and the Pennsylvania Department of Education. This two-day camp taught knife skills, recipe breakdowns, and culinary techniques. Twenty new recipes were introduced, and our dedicated staff looks forward to introducing some new treats to our students in the upcoming months.

Breakfast, the most important meal of the day, will be available in all of our buildings! In the elementary schools, we will be serving students in each hallway. This allows easy access and quick service so that students can enjoy breakfast while the teachers get ready to start the day. In our middle school, students will be served several choices in a “grab-and-go” format that will enable the students to take their breakfasts with them into the classroom. The high school will continue to serve delicious breakfast meals in the cafeteria. New this year, smoothies and fruit & yogurt parfaits will be added to the menu!

While making great strides these past five years, our biggest challenge continues to be getting students to try new fruits and vegetables. With the success of “Try Me Tuesdays,” students were able to try many new foods that they may not receive at home. This may open the door and encourage families to try new foods!

Please check out all areas of our Cocalico Food Services website where you can find information on menus, calorie and carb counts, allergies, wellness opportunities, summer feeding information, and so much more.

School meals are the healthiest, safest, and most economical way to feed your children. Our highly trained, dedicated staff here at Cocalico will continue to provide the best and freshest foods for our students. We don’t serve “school lunches,” we serve “lunch at school!”
