Assistants to the Superintendent

Dr. Nathan P. Van Deusen joined the Cocalico Central Office Staff following a ten-year term as an elementary principal in the Cocalico School District.  Prior to his tenure as an elementary principal, Dr. Van Deusen taught for three years in the Cocalico School District, 5 years in the Baltimore County School District, and one year in Baltimore City School District. 

Dr. Van Deusen holds a Superintendent’s Letter of Eligibility from Edinboro University (2014), a Doctorate of Education in Administrative Teaching and Learning from Walden University (2013), a Master’s Degree in Administration from Towson University (2005), and a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education from Messiah College (1996). 

Dr. Van Deusen oversees the Cocalico School District’s elementary education (K-5), special services, athletics, nursing, school safety, MTSS Process, and ESL Program.  He resides in the Lampeter Strasburg school district with his wife and three sons.

Dr. Stephen A. Melnyk has been part of Cocalico School District since 2000. He began his career at Cocalico as an 8th grade Communication Arts teacher. During this time, he also served the district as a team leader and department chair for grades 6-8. In 2004, he moved into administration and served as the assistant principal and later, principal of Cocalico Middle School.

Dr. Melnyk’s education credentials include a Bachelor’s of the Arts in Secondary Education – English and a Master’s of Education in Teaching and Curriculum from The Pennsylvania State University. He received his Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership and his Superintendent's Letter of Eligibility from Lehigh University.

Dr. Melnyk oversees the district’s secondary curriculum and instruction programs, gifted education, child accounting, comprehensive planning, instructional technology, library services, and staff development. He resides in Palmyra with his wife and son.
