Success at the 2019 CMS Honors Orchestra Auditions
The Saturday before Thanksgiving break is the annual date reserved for CMS Honors Orchestra Auditions. Students are required to play scales, a solo, and sight read a specially prepared piece of music. Preparation for this audition begins in the first week of school in both the 7th and 8th grade classes. All 8th grade students are expected to participate in this audition (learning to "swing the bat"). Students in 6th and 7th graders with a minimum of 1 year of prior experience are encouraged to audition too.

This year two 8th Grade and three 7th Grade students tried out. All of them are to be congratulated for mustering the courage and working hard to prepare for the audition. This year two of the students were rated as being among the best in the Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools:

CMS Symphonic Honors Orchestra
8th Grade Violinist: Daniel Huynh
8th Grade Cellist: Braulio Camacho

Note: There are two "tabs" on this sheet. Make sure you're looking at the one titled "Symphonic CMS Honors."  The list is in alphabetical order by last name.
"Odd" = Outside of stand, upper notes when parts divide
"Even" = Inside of stand, lower notes when parts divide,

After these students verify that they are accepting their chair and they receive the concert music, the next step for all of those that earned chairs for a Thursday evening rehearsal and seating audition on January 23, 2020. Then the students come together for final rehearsals on February 7th & 8th before presenting their annual concert on the evening of 2/8/2020. Please plan on coming out to support these amazing players on Saturday February 8, 2020 (More information to come).

Blazin' Bow Invitations and Contracts
Blazin' Bows is an auditioned ensemble that performs classic rock, pop, and jazz. This "Rock Orchestra" frequently uses electric instruments and plays for events that are lighter in nature. This ensemble is made of students that have more than 1 or more years of playing experience. Look for an invitation to participate in this ensemble in mid-September!

This is no ordinary calendar! If you click on a class, you'll find lesson plans, notes and study resources. If you click on a concert/event, then you'll see the "Who, What, When, Where, 'Wear', Why and How" information. If you have a Written Test coming up, click on the Written Test event to find study links and other information about the test. Oh yeah, and it tells you which days are orchestra days too;-).
