The name of this organization shall be "AWOL: All Ways of Loving," hereinafter referred to as "AWOL."
The purpose of this organization shall be to serve as a social and activist student club for bisexuals, lesbians, gay people, queer people, transgendered people, heterosexual allies, and anyone questioning their sexuality. We work together to make Juniata a more open and safe community by increasing awareness and acceptance of LGBTQIA people and educating the campus community about homophobia, transphobia, and biphobia. Additionally, we sponsor activities and programs on campus that provide opportunities for members of the LGBTQIA community and their allies to meet with each other, create a greater sense of support and community and promote safer sex practices.
All Juniata students are qualified to become members of AWOL, regardless of GPA, class level, major, etc. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, national origin, age, gender, marital status, color, veteran status, sexual orientation, or disability. â€¨Voting privileges shall be granted to regularly enrolled Juniata College students and to eligible non-students as associate members, who may attend meetings, make motions, and participate in discussion and activities. The responsibilities of all members shall include continued interest and support of the AWOL mission statement.
AWOL does not require dues or fees of its members, associate members, or new members.
Membership may be terminated if an AWOL member withdraws from Juniata College or willingly withdraws membership.
All officers must be regularly enrolled students in good standing at Juniata College.
Officers are elected at a meeting at the end of the spring semester for the following academic year by attending members, by a simple majority vote. Officers may be removed by a 2/3 majority vote of the total voting membership. Offices are filled if there is a vacancy by appointment.
Co-Presidents shall coordinate committees and members in their various activities and shall attend relevant meetings at Juniata specific to those duties. The Secretary shall keep records of official business. The Treasurer shall keep records of financial transactions. The Webmaster shall keep the website up to date with relevant information and perform re-design tasks as necessary.
1. The Executive Committee shall be comprised of the elected officers of the organization and shall meet to finalize agenda items, prepare informational reports and collaborate on the business of the organization.
2. The Co-Presidents and/or Executive Committee may appoint other committees as needs arise.
AWOL shall meet every Sunday evening at 9 PM in Lesher Basement. Members will be notified by e-mail and/or public announcements.
A. The process for general decision making (including the expenditure of funds) shall be a majority of the membership in attendance at the scheduled meeting.
B. The executive committee may, with a majority vote, authorize expenditures of up to $500 for routine operational expenses.
A faculty advisor shall be elected and removed by majority vote of the executive committee and/or the membership.
This constitution may be amended by a 2/3 vote of the membership in attendance at the scheduled meeting. Amendments are introduced to the membership by public announcement.
Should the club disband, the executive board shall disburse the assets to an assigned charity. Should no officers be available, the Director of Campus Activities shall be authorized to make the disbursal.
Generally, AWOL shall be governed by its Co-Presidents, and shall be coordinated by its Secretary, Treasurer, Webmaster, and Committee Chairs. Business shall be conducted at weekly meetings, and decisions shall be made by majority vote or executive decision. AWOL does not require fees or dues from its members. All Juniata students are welcome to the club.
