Welcome to the 2016-2017 school year at Alta Sierra Intermediate.  As your 8th grade Academic Block teacher, my goal is to give you academic study strategies and organizational skills in order to prepare you for high school. The key to success is to make sure you are at school everyday.  There will be days when you are not feeling well.  There are a couple of different ways for you to know what you are missing when absent.  You can email me at sharonferguson@cusd.com and I would be happy to attach assignments or lessons you can complete at home.  Your cluster office can also be contacted.  They will contact your teachers and your parents may pick up any missed work from your cluster office at the end of the day.  I also encourage you to use Zangle Student Connect on a weekly basis.  This prevents those "academic surprises" at grade reporting times.

United States History:This year in history we will study the ideas, issues, and events from the framing of the Constitution up to World War I, with an emphasis on America's role in the war. After reviewing the development of  English parliamentary traditions, particularly the shaping of the Constitution, we will trace the development of American politics, society, culture, and economy and relate them to the emergence of major regional differences. We will learn about the many challenges facing the new nation, with an emphasis on the causes, course, and consequences of the Civil War. Throughout the year we will make connections between the rise of industrialization and contemporary social and economic conditions.
