Notes to Parents and Students:  Week of 9/10/18
It's Carnival week!  We have a lot going on.  We're in the middle of our Jog-a-thon collections.  Mid quarter Progress Reports will be going home this Thursday.  We have sports games at Weldon on Friday.  And our annual Carnival will take place Friday from 3:30 to 7:30.  Keep reading for more details.
A flyer went home a couple of weeks ago.  It had information about the upcoming carnival and our silent auction basket.  We have pretty good representation for volunteers at the carnival.  The 6th grade is in charge of the food booth.  If you would like to help out, be sure to contact one of our room moms (listed on the flyer).  We are also looking for items or money donations for our silent auction basket.  The theme is family fun night, so we could use movie tickets, food gift cards, games, and things like that.  There was a separate flyer with information and an envelope.  If you would like to donate a check, be sure to make it out to the Cedarwood PTC.  It's this Friday and we want it to be a success, so your help is greatly appreciated!
Carnival Voucher pre-sales continue this week.  If you'd like to purchase vouchers before the carnival, see the flyer sent home last week with details. Remember, the carnival is this Friday, September 21st from 3:30 to 7:30 pm.  You can pre-order the vouchers up until Wednesday, September 19th.  You can have them delivered to your student, or you can pick them up in the office.
We also sent home some flyers regarding baked goodies, crafts, and the frog jumping contest.  Be sure to read everything that comes home.  Also, you can find out information on the school website, so take a look for all the upcoming events and news!
We are collecting pledge money for our jog-a-thon until October 3rd.  We've brought in a little over $800 so far.  We have some class incentives to reach our goals as well as a challenge from Mrs. Sylvia's class.  Remember that this is our only real official fundraiser, so let's do the best we can!
This will be the 5th week of the school year.  This marks the mid point of the 1st quarter.  We will be sending progress reports home this Thursday.  Please sign the progress report envelope, keep the report, and send the empty, signed envelope back to school ASAP.  Your cooperation is appreciated.
Last Friday, our fall sports teams traveled to Clovis Elementary to take on the Jaguars.  The cross-country team split it's races winning 2 and losing 2.  The volleyball team won a close 3 game match.  And the football team dominated in a 25 to 0 win.  There was even an amazing throw and catch that made the ESPN top 10 plays highlights on Sportscenter Friday night.  It also was shown at halftime of NFL Sunday Night Football.  We'll be practicing this Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday to get ready for our next away game at Weldon on Friday.  Game order has switched up a little this year.  Volleyball will be like usual with J.V. games starting around 2:00 and varsity games beginning at 3:00 pm.  Cross-country will start 4th grade races first followed by the 5th/6th grade races.  Football has changed because of referee availability.  The varsity game will be first (2:30) followed by the J.V. game.  I'm sure our athletes will continue to represent our school with pride and good sportsmanship as usual.  Go Hawks!!!
Homework club will this week.  It will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays either in Mrs. Bower's room or Miss Hill's room.  Detention will start this week in Mrs. Samuelian's room for those who are referred by their teachers.
If you want to get the most updated information from Cedarwood and Clovis Unified, download "Peachjar" available from the school website and the new free "Clovis USD" app from Ios or Android store for your phone or tablet.  These apps make it easy to stay up to date with everything that's going on at school!
Just a reminder.  All visitors who come on campus need to first report to the office to get a visitors' badge.  We're making a concerted effort to make our campus as safe as possible for all of our students, so please abide by our safety rules.  Your cooperation is greatly appreciated.
Have a great week!
Mr. Althoff
