Notes to Parents and Students:  Week of 1/21/19
This is the last week of the 2nd quarter, so we'll be half way through the year. It's multicultural week at Cedarwood.  There will be some fun activities going on.  We have our last winter league sports games this Friday at Gettysburg.  It's also Elementary Night Wednesday for the boys' basketball.  We're supposed to get quite a bit of rain this week, so that could cause some problems with sports practices.  Students will call home if practices get cancelled.  If they don;t call home, assume practices are still on!  It should be a fun and busy week.  Read on for more details.
This is the last week of the 2nd quarter.  I'll have to have grades wrapped up by Friday, so any late or makeup work needs to be in by Wednesday.  Thanks for your cooperation.  Report cards will be going home next Thursday.
It's multicultural week at Cedarwood.  We did an art project last week that will be posted on our door.  We have an author's visit on Tuesday morning at 9:00 am.  There will be a multicultural fashion show on Thursday morning at 9:00 am.  I'm sure we'll learn a lot about some of the cultures of our students.
Next Monday, 1/21/19 is when Martin Luther King Day will be observed.  There will be no school, so you'll get a three day weekend!
Our winter sports teams hosted games last Friday against Mickey Cox.  Our wrestlers came up just a little short in a close match with the Cowboys.  Our girls' basketball team improved to 5 and 1 with a victory over Cox.  They still have a chance at a league championship with a win at Gettysburg Friday.  Our boys' basketball team won 35 to 25 and clinched a league title with a 6 and 0 record.  We'll be practicing all week (weather permitting) for our last league game at Gettysburg this Friday.  All J.V. games should be starting around 2:00 pm.  The varsity boys' basketball games will be starting at 2:15 pm.  Varsity wrestling starts at 3:00.  The girls' varsity basketball games will start around 3:15 pm.  The basketball teams play at different times in order to have officials who ref both games.  Go Hawks!
Our boys' basketball players are invited to Clovis High's basketball game this Wednesday night at their elementary night.  Players will get in for free.  They should show up at 6:00 pm.  They'll get to be part of the pregame and can watch the game which starts at 7:00 pm.
Homework club will continue this week.  It will be held on Tuesday and Thursday either in Mrs. Bower's room or Miss Hill's room.  Detention will continue this week in Mrs. Samuelian's room for those who are referred by their teachers.
If you want to get the most updated information from Cedarwood and Clovis Unified, download "Peachjar" available from the school website and the new free "Clovis USD" app from Ios or Android store for your phone or tablet.  These apps make it easy to stay up to date with everything that's going on at school!
Just a reminder.  All visitors who come on campus need to first report to the office to get a visitors' badge.  We're making a concerted effort to make our campus as safe as possible for all of our students, so please abide by our safety rules.  Your cooperation is greatly appreciated.
Have a great week!
Mr. Althoff
