Objective:
Students will demonstrate understanding by using GarageBand to record, cut, and copy a piece of audio.
You will need:
1 microphone
1 XLR cord
start a project in GarageBand called 'Mic Recording'.
Connect the microphone:
Plug the cable into the mic.
Plug the other end into mic 1 on your mixing console.
If you are using a condenser mic, push the 'phantom power' button.
Set the input / output levels:
Turn the mic 1 gain up about 3/4.
Turn the mic 1 level up about 3/4.
Turn the stereo level up about 3/4.
Record your voice:
Click the record button.
Sing do, re, mi, fa, sol syllables.
Make sure you leave space between each one when you sing them. This will make editing easier!
Split the syllables:
Divide the one region into five, so that each syllable is now a separate region
Create a new song with your syllables:
Highlight your original track and select 'duplicate track' from the 'track' menu.
Copy and Paste the syllables so that play as Do-Do, Re-Re, Mi-Mi, Fa-Fa, Sol-Sol.
Finally Create a few song examples using your five notes:
“Mary Had a Little Lamb”: Mi-Re-Do-Re-Mi-Mi-Mi
“Jingle Bells”: Mi-Mi-Mi, Mi-Mi-Mi, Mi-Sol-Do-Re-Mi
“Ode to Joy”: Mi-Mi-Fa-Sol-Sol-Fa-Mi-Re-Do-Do-Re-Mi-Mi-Re-Re
