Founder:  Brian Von Herzen, Ph.D.   

Brian Von Herzen obtained his A.B. in Physics, Magna Cum Laude, from Princeton University and his Ph.D. in Computer and Planetary Science from Caltech where he was the recipient of the prestigious Hertz Fellowship (http://www.hertzfoundation.org)
. While at Princeton, Brian spent four years working closely with Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute.  At Princeton, his dissertation on global climate models demonstrated how changes in the Earth's orbit affects climate.  During his Caltech years Brian worked on models of the overabundance of carbon in Jupiter's atmosphere.  Little did he know that a decade later we would have to solve this problem for the Earth's atmosphere. From these experiences he acquired a detailed understanding of the Earth’s carbon cycle and has envisioned sustainable approaches to restoring carbon balance in our atmosphere.  Nature does a great job of fixing carbon.  Primary production on the Earth has been fixing carbon for billions of years.  By restoring natural carbon cycles, we can restore food productivity of Earth while concurrently balancing carbon.  Once we reduce the carbon intensity of our own lifestyles, natural biogeochemical processes can take our civilization carbon negative using technologies comprising biochar to withdraw gigatons of carbon from the atmosphere for millennia.

Much of Brian’s career has been in Silicon Valley, where he developed innovative technical solutions for companies like Pixar, Dolby, Microsoft, and others. Among other projects, he designed field programmable gate array (FPGA) applications considered to be among the world’s fastest at the time.

Brian leads projects on land and sea with  individuals and groups in all parts of the world, including India, Africa, and the USA.

Theresa Theuretzbacherstudied Water Management and Environmental Engineering at the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences, Vienna. She gained experience in solving problems of specific local water, waste and sanitation challenges in several projects in rural Ghana, Alaska and DR Kongo. In Ghana she proposed a sustainable village development plan and collaborated on the implementation of a solar powered water supply system. The Project was awarded with the Bauhaus Solar Award (distinction) and the National Energy Globe Award Ghana.

She is currently based in Norway and is working for the Climate Foundation as an environmental engineer in the human waste management sector, involved in projects in Alaska and India. Within the North American Partnership on Environmental Community Action Grant and the Alaska Water and Sewer Challenge she was involved in the development of a proposal for innovative and affordable water and sewer systems including a concept design of a Biochar Sanitation System for homes in rural Alaska.

Bob Mollenhauer is a fundraising director for the Climate Foundation. He previously served as chief development officer at Woods Hole Research Center. 

Before coming to Cape Cod, Bob was director of development for the College of Natural Resources and Environment at Virginia Tech. Prior to Virginia Tech, he was vice president at Roanoke College in Salem, Virginia and at Slippery Rock University, a member of the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education.


At Slippery Rock University, Mollenhauer directed the successful $33 million Campaign for Slippery Rock University as well as having overall direction for fundraising, public relations and alumni relations. He also established RockNet, an interactive career services network; the President’s Advisory Council, and managed the upgrading of the alumni magazine.


Mollenhauer served as executive director of corporate and foundation relations at the University of Pittsburgh; director of development at Colorado College in Colorado Springs, Colorado; and director of development for the River Campus at the University of Rochester in Rochester, New York.  At the University of Rochester, Mollenhauer was also the head baseball coach.


Mollenhauer was the head baseball coach at SUNY Brockport in Brockport, NY and at Middlesex Community College in Bedford, MA.  His teams won more than 100 games in his coaching career and participated in the NCAA Tournament.  Mollenhauer played professional baseball for 5 years in the Oakland Athletics minor league system earning California League All-Star status. Mollenhauer managed a C.E.T.A. program for disadvantaged students and was a wilderness instructor at Wilderness Ventures, a travel camping program for high school students.


He earned a Master of Education degree in counseling at Boston University and a Bachelors of Arts degree in English and Psychology from Lafayette College. Bob and his wife Laurie live in Mashpee, Massachusetts and have two sons: Dale and Brett.

Rebecca Truman obtained her education from UCSB and Pasadena Art Center College of Design. She has created and sold monumental public and private art. However, it was a series of journeys crossing Greenland, and witnessing first-hand the rapid destruction of our ecosystems that led Rebecca to work on saving the planet. Re-educating herself on climate change topics, Rebecca manages world logistics at the Climate Foundation. 

Her motivation: the Climate Foundation offers hope by creating solutions for the world.

Reggie Johnson
is currently working with the Climate Foundation, developing systems and technologies to grow Azolla year round in areas not suitable for normal agricultural development. 

Reggie has been fortunate to work on many high-tech research and development projects for Compressed Air Energy Storage Technologies, Locomotive CNG propulsion, Next Generation Solar heating technologies and the Desert Research Institute in Reno, NV.  In addition, Reggie has worked in the electrical construction industry for over twenty-five years as a Master Electrician, General Foreman, Project Manager, Designer and Estimator. Projects have included Ormac Geothermal generating plants, Crystal Geyser water bottling plant and numerous hospitals, schools and municipal water systems. 

Tom Kelly obtained his BS Degree in Physics from UCSB, and his MSEE Degree from Santa Clara University.  He has spent most of his career in Silicon Valley with activities spanning engineering, marketing and sales.  Primarily focused on hardware, most recently he has been involved with Big Data Analytics, machine learning, and the associated frameworks.  

"I have been lucky enough to spend my entire adult life (and much of my childhood) a stone's throw from the Pacific.  As such, i have enjoyed the abundant energy the ocean has to offer.  I want my children and subsequent generations to enjoy this as well.  Yet there is so much more at stake beyond a good surf.  We have been selfishly foolish up to this point.  It is time to act aggressively to mitigate the damage which will inevitably ensue.  Brian and team have the capability to swing the needle.  I am quite proud to be a part of this, and continue to maintain optimism for our future."
