Raleigh, North Carolina – FFA members from Crest High school traveled to the North Carolina State Fair on Friday 19 November with the school’s Oberhasli and Lamancha dairy goat herd to participate in the Youth and Open Dairy Goat Show.

The group consisted of six student members who have dedicated time and effort in managing the school’s dairy goat operation. Those students who traveled to Raleigh are Elizabeth Blanton, Dakota Davis, Alyssa Glenn, Keely Marlowe, Laney Qualls, and Olivia-Claire Wall. During the American Dairy Goat sanctioned show Keely Marlowe placed third in Intermediate Showmanship. The Crest FFA dairy herd received honors for the Lamancha Reserve Junior Champion, the Oberhasli Junior Reserve Champion, and the Reserve Grand Champion Oberhasli.

While only a small number qualify to participate at the state fair a large number of students support the operation through courses in Animal Science and Veterinary Assisting. Crest FFA students are responsible for managing the school's operation throughout the school year.

The dairy goat program offers a unique setting in which students participate in activities and hands-on skills that reinforce agricultural concepts as well as concepts in science and math. In addition to the technical aspect of the program students further develop positive attitudes, responsibility and other soft skills that are necessary to become successful in the workforce today.
