posted Feb 12, 2018, 4:44 AM by Philip-Mark Bryson

Shelley Gerald received a grant from NC Beautiful, a non-profit organization dedicated to raising awareness and appreciation of our natural beauty and resources and the importance of environmental stewardship. Steve Vacendak, the Executive Director of NC Beautiful, presented her and her calculus class with a check to fund the project, which is designed to create a sense of environmental sensitivity and community service in her students. During this project, her students will research past oil spills and the effect that these spills have on the environment and explore the calculus involved when dealing with these situations. They will then create their own oil spill and test different oil absorbing materials.
