Our First Question of the Week Winner!

The theme for the library for the 3rd Nine weeks is: Is Truth Stranger Than Fiction? To build excitement around reading more "Truth" or non-fiction books, Mrs. Pauley, Librarian, is sharing a Question of the week. "Students are encouraged to use books, websites or just google to find the information. The idea is that it forces them to do just a little bit of non-fiction reading and research," said Pauley.

"Jacob Kennon, 6th grade student, did a great job answering the question and provided a lot of detail," said Pauley.

Here is the question that Jacob had to answer. After reading the question and answer, would you agree that sometimes, truth may be stranger than fiction?

Part 1: On June 17, 1871, who was practicing law in Ohio and was killed in the courtroom? Part 2: Who was he (why famous)? Part. 3 How was he killed?

Answer: Clement Vallandigham was a leader of the Ohio Democratic Party and an opponent of the American Civil War. Vallandigham's political career ended with his untimely death on June 17, 1871. While preparing the defense of an accused murderer, Vallandigham enacted his view of what occurred at the crime scene. Thinking that a pistol that he was using as a prop was unloaded, Vallandigham pointed it at himself and pulled the trigger. The gun discharged, and Vallandigham was mortally wounded.
