Welcome to the Clear Creek Elementary art program! The goal is to learn about art while having fun. Art is my favorite thing to do and I'm excited to share what I know. I want students to explore and enjoy art, not be afraid to try new things. EVERYONE can learn about art. I don't believe only those with "talent" can do art. Art skills are just that, learned skills.
As of the beginning of the 2016-2017 school year I have 600 students kindergarten through fifth grade. The students have art once per cycle. All classes have art for 45 minutes. I have 28 homerooms this year.
I like to get messy in art class so please make sure you wear a paint shirt.
I hang up / display ALL student artworks. That is why you might not see art coming home very often. But you will get it all back by the end of the year.

Art Room Update 10-25-16
It's fall parent/teacher conferences right now. Please notice all the great new art in the building as you walk in. It's all new from when you came to Open House in September. The kids have been busy. We've done pumpkins with chalk pastels, spiders and spider webs with oil pastels and metallic watercolor paints. We made a night picture of a full moon in tempera paint and glued on construction paper bats. I want to be very clear that we do not do Halloween projects in art class though. We actually studied spiders and bats with non-fiction books from the library. We harvested 7 huge pumpkins from our school garden to draw from. We also ...

10-14-16 Artroom Update
A lot has happened in art class since my last post a month ago. We were working on scratch art and fashion design. Since then we have printed fall leaves, colored the windows for open house, made bead bracelets and are not learning about bats and making a cool midnight sky with paint and will put a bat that we make in it in the lower grades. Some of them have also had time already to draw 3D pumpkins with chalk pastels. In the upper grades we were working hard on designing new and innovative fashions but now we have moved on to architecture. We made it into a game, Roll-A-Building, and whatever number they landed on they ...

Art Room News 9-15-16
We have finished up our amazing action paintings after we studied the artist Jackson Pollock and his techniques. Thank you to all those that donated makeup and nail polish to our cause. They are hanging up in the hallways and look fabulous! We moved on to scratch art. I LOVE this stuff! You can buy it at Larsen's and hobby Lobby, anywhere they sell crafty stuff. It's usually shiny black paper and with a wooden stick we can scratch off the black to reveal a color, sparkle or and optical illusion pattern underneath as we draw our pictures. Everyone loes scratch art. Now some of our older students are starting to work on fashion design. they are creating ...

Art Room 8-29-16
The school year is off and running! We are doing the first day of art project for all students that involves splatters, drips, sprays, bubbles and squirts. We are using food coloring in water and in bubbles to make our colorful splatter paintings. As long as the weather is nice we are doing it outside in the school garden because it is messy. We are studying the art of Jackson Pollock and his art movement of Abstract Expressionism. Your students will have stained hands when they come home but a nice bubble bath will fix that right up. We require the students to wear paint shirts every art class but if they get some on their clothes they can soak ...

12-5-14 Art Room Update
Thank you to everyone who participated in the Mountain Color Card
Company greeting cards project that was done in art class. Because of
your generosity we raised $1,470 for art room supplies! That is
amazing! The cards turned out wonderfully and even if you didn't order
cards you have your student's beautiful original art work that can be
framed. The students worked hard and did a superb job on the project.
I'm so proud of them!

Art Room update 10-23-14
We are finishing up our gorgeous moonlit winter silhouettes that we are submitting for making into a package of cards if the parents should so choose. The artwork is coming home in a large envelope and needs to be returned to their homeroom teacher no later than 10-31-14, next Friday. Please sign and return the envelope with the artwork in it even if you don't want to buy cards. I have to send them all into the card company and everyone will get their original artwork back. I'm hoping the cards come in before Christmas but I'm not guaranteeing they will. We have worked really hard on this artwork and it shows. For each box ...
