Principal's Corner

Derick Upchurch

Dear Parents and Guardians:

I wanted to take a few moments to personally write a letter to introduce myself and make you aware of the administration change occurring at Clay County High School over the holiday break. After a very successful career with the Clay County School System, Ms. Melissa White will be entering a well deserved retirement. I will be assuming the duties of Principal at Clay County High School for the remainder of this school year. I wanted to personally inform you of this change as well as introduce to myself to those of you who I do not already know from my previous years teaching.

I have spent the last 11 years here in the Clay County School system as Chemistry and Biology teacher at Clay County High School. At the beginning of this school year I assumed the role of Assistant Principal at Celina K-8 Elementary School. During my time in the Clay County School System, Clay County has become a second home to me. I grew up and currently reside in Allons, Tennessee with my wife and two sons. My wife is also a teacher here in Clay County at Celina K-8. I have truly enjoyed my time here and look forward to beginning a new role where I can continue to serve the students and families of Clay County.

As I transition to this new position, I plan to do my best to ensure the academic integrity that the students, faculty, and staff of Clay County High School have worked to hard to achieve. Students will still be held to high expectations both in and out of the classroom. I will do my best to ensure that every student is treated just and fairly, while being provided with a safe and welcoming environment in which to learn.

If you ever have any questions or concerns please give me a call. I look forward to working with you and your children. Thank you for everything you do to assist us throughout the school year.
