Course Information

Teacher: Todd Risser
School: Johnson Williams Middle School
Location: 219

Course Objective:

Math 7
In this class, we will be using your prior knowledge to explore many new and exciting concepts this year. My goal is for you to have a successful year, so please feel free to contact me at any time with any questions you may have. I am always more than willing to help. Success does not come easy to all, but with hard work all will achieve success.  This year, the math department is excited to have two math programs that students will be using throughout the year: ALEKS and iReady. These programs help to provide enrichment as well as remediation for students based on their individual needs. The programs will be used as part of the classroom routine weekly and an added bonus is that students will be able to access the materials at home too. More information on these sites will be coming shortly.
Algebra 1
I would like to begin by welcoming you to Algebra 1. This year, we will take your prior knowledge and integrate it into the wonderful world of Algebra. This year will also be an adjustment for many since it will be fast paced and we will be learning a lot of new concepts. This course is a high school credit bearing course. This will be a rigorous course that will move quickly. There is a lot of information to be covered and not a lot of time when we only meet every other day. Students are expected to complete their homework every day that it is assigned. Students are also strongly encouraged to seek help or get additional support on topics they may be struggling with. Throughout the year, we will continue to review old concepts but sometimes students need more than that to ensure success. I am usually available during third block and arrangements can be made to come in early before school or stay late after school.
Honors Geometry
Welcome to the 2017-2018 school year!  I am excited to have you in my class.  We are going to have a fantastic year. Honors Geometry covers an extensive amount of material and will be fast paced. As an honors level course, the weighted grade point is higher than an academic class. It is also a high school credit course so it will count toward your high school GPA and will be included on your high school transcript. My goal is to work together to help you have a successful school year. Please read over the following information and contact me if you have any questions. I am always more than willing to help. I look forward to a wonderful and productive year.
