Course Descriptions:

Physical Science 8

In Physical Science 8, areas of study are broken down into two semesters. The first semester of this course includes such concepts as scientific process skills; matter and changes in matter; atoms and the periodic table. The second semester covers energy; motion, forces, and work; waves, light and sound; magnetism and electricity. Throughout the course, students will plan and conduct  investigations using appropriate scientific process skills. Students will also be required to take a Science SOL Assessment at the end of this eighth grade year,   which covers sixth, seventh, and eighth grade science knowledge and skills.

General Science 6

In General Science 6, areas of study will include energy, energy transformations, solar energy, structure of matter, characteristics of water and its role in environment, structure and dynamics of Earth’s atmosphere, watershed systems, the solar system, and natural resources. Throughout the course, students will plan and conduct investigations using appropriate scientific process skills. Students will be required to take a Science SOL Assessment at the end of their eighth grade year, which covers sixth, seventh, and eighth grade science knowledge and skills.
