God's Existence and the Death of God

In the thirteenth century, Thomas Aquinas (on the right) attempted to demonstrate God's existence through the use of reason, unaided by faith. In the nineteenth century, Friedrich Nietzsche (on the left) declared God dead--a victim of Western philosophy's obsession with reason and logic.
