Dear Students and Parents,
Welcome to Copenhagen International School, High School. The High School comprises grades 9-12 and was created as a separate division of the school in 2011. This allowed not only for the growth of the school, but also for particular focus on the social, emotional and academic development of High School students.
In 2016-17 the High School will have around 271 students, representing around 60 nationalities. Cultural diversity is important to us, and we very much appreciate the variety of backgrounds and experiences that our students and their families bring to CIS. We also value our wonderful local community, and appreciate opportunities to incorporate Danish culture into our curriculum and school life. Copenhagen is a culturally and intellectually rich city, of which we are fortunate to be a part.
CIS offers a rigorous High School academic programme, driven by a strong commitment to our mission to develop the potential of each student in a stimulating environment of cultural diversity, academic excellence and mutual respect. We offer the IB curriculum throughout High School, comprising the 4th and 5th years of the Middle Years Programme in grades 9 and 10, and the Diploma Programme in grades 11 and 12. Our graduates receive a CIS High School Diploma, accredited by the U.S North Eastern Association of Schools and Colleges, and the Council of International Schools. (We are the only school in Denmark authorised to award a US-accredited High School Diploma). The majority of our students also complete the full IB Diploma.
CIS also offers a range of co-curricular and extra-curricular activities, and there are many ways to be involved in the life of the school beyond the classroom. We encourage our students to become involved in, develop and lead improvement initiatives, service learning opportunities and community events. Faculty and staff are always available for support and encouragement.
This handbook is designed to be a reference so that you have necessary information readily available. It is important that you are familiar with school policies and procedures. The school website, http://www.cis.dk, also has up to date information and should be checked regularly for details of school events.
We look forward to working with you throughout the school year.
