*HOPE NOT HANDCUFFS: Become Someone's Angel! Are you interested in helping someone that suffers from drug or alcohol addiction? Would you be willing to donate a little of your time to have a direct impact on someone's path to recovery? The Hope Not Handcuffs program is growing and we need volunteer "Angels" to continue its success! As a Royal Oak Police Chaplain, Rev. Renee has been asked by the department to seek volunteers in our church and local community as this new initiative of Families Against Narcotics begins this June. Hope Not Handcuffs is aimed at bringing law enforcement and community organizations together in an effort to find viable treatment options for individuals seeking help to reduce dependence with any substance, including heroin, prescription drugs and alcohol. They will be greeted with compassion and respect. An Angel will be called to assist until a treatment option is found. Angels help participants complete paperwork and place a call to the appropriate provider for treatment assistance. Meetings are safe and always take place at one of the 50 + participating police stations in southern Oakland County. Once a treatment option is found, transportation will be arranged by a third-party resource. Volunteer Angels pick their days and hours to be "on call." The only requirement is a compassion to help those in need. To complete the online application and select a training date, please visit: hopenothandcuffs.com A meeting will be held Tuesday, June 19th, at 6:30pm at the Royal Oak Police Department: 221 E. Third Street, Royal Oak, 48067

* CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR 2018 GRADUATES! Saturday, June 16th, will be a banner day for the Center for the Swedenborgian Studies. Two of our students graduated from Pacific School of Religion. Rachel Madjerac and Cory Bradford-Watts received their Masters of Divinity Degrees! A most hearty congratulations to them! And our distance student, William Rotalla, also received his Certificate of Swedenborgian Theology from Pacific School of Religion! Rachel has secured a year-long paid residency in chaplaincy at Sharpe Memorial Hospital in San Diego beginning in August. Corey was just selected last week as the next minister in the denomination's on-line ministry (swedenborgiancommunity.org), which is a part-time position, and he is in the process of candidating for another complementary position. Bill Rotella's journey as a distance student with us is a fine example of how we serve Swedenborgian learners who cannot always join us on campus but are dedicated to learning and are a vital part of our community as well. We look forward to Rachel and Cory's ordination service on July 3rd at the Convention in San Jose and hope that some of you will be there to celebrate with us. Congratulations to Rachel, Cory and Bill on a journey very well traveled!
