Our 3 Be's

How is PBIS implemented at Stillson?

P.B.I.S. stands for Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports. PBIS is a framework for teaching expected behaviors in the classroom and building setting. At Stillson, we follow the PBIS framework with our 3 Be’s – Be Safe, Be Respectful, and Be Responsible.

Specific procedures for teaching and celebrating these expectations will occur throughout the year. This will be achieved through the use of:

Teach To's: School wide instruction of expected behaviors. We spend much of the first few weeks of school teaching the expected behaviors in each setting – classroom, playground, library, gym, lunchroom, hallway, bathroom, etc. Each setting has a behavior matrix clearly posted so students and staff are aware of what is expected in each setting. All behaviors are taught at the beginning of the year, after winter break and throughout the year whenever a student or class demonstrates difficulties displaying appropriate behaviors in a particular setting.

Stinger Stubs: Immediate reinforcement of positive behaviors. These are given by all staff members whenever a student is observed following the expectations. Kindergarten and first grade students turn in tickets for a random drawing each week. Students in 2nd - 5th grade can save their tickets for items from our 3 Be Reward Menu.

Minors (Quick Slips) and Office Discipline Referrals (ODR's): Teaching and data collection tools to inform administration, staff, and parents of problem behaviors. This data is tracked and collected for staff to see how referrals are being made each month and when and where problem behaviors are occurring.

Celebrations: By following the expectations students participate in school wide activities to celebrate positive behaviors.
