Welcome to 7th Grade Language Arts - Mrs. Lori Miller

In the 7th Grade Language Arts class we will be reading several novels and multiple small articles in our quest to improve our knowledge of different genres, develop close reading skills, cite textual evidence, and explore plot, characters and setting.  Students will become more familiar with the four writing styles of persuasive, descriptive, narrative and expository as they write essays, complete projects, and answer constructed-response type questions.

Homework is usually not assigned for this class.  However, since all work is completed during class time, any assignments not completed will be considered homework to be taken home and returned finished the following day.

Grading Policy -  Heritage Middle School has an 80/20 grading policy.  This means that 80% of a student's final grade consists of tests, quizzes, and final project scores while only 20% of their final grade is based on their classwork, homework, participation, and bell work.

The following books will be read this year:

A Long Walk to Water by Linda Sue Parks
The Giver by Lois Lowry
Lyddie by Katherine Paterson
The People Could Fly  by Virginia Hamilton
The Dark is Rising by Susan Cooper
A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L'Engle
