Mrs. Terry's Bio

Hello!  My name is Julie Terry, and I'm the 7th-10th grade English instructor at Chinook Jr./Sr. High School.

Born and raised a proud Sugarbeeter, I graduated from CHS in 2002 and went on to earn a BA in English from Evangel University.  I will graduate from Montana State University-Bozeman with a Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction in the spring of 2018. I married my high school classmate, Logan Terry, in 2004, and together we have two daughters: Anna (12), and Brooklyn (9).

For the past decade, Logan and I have been working as Petroleum Landmen in Montana, Wyoming, and North Dakota.  Five years ago, we moved back to Chinook so our daughters could enjoy the carefree childhood experience this community offers.  Logan, the co-founder and COO of a mineral acquisition firm, has been working remotely from a Chinook office since we returned to Montana in 2013; I worked as an independent petroleum contractor until I accepted my current teaching position in August.

My goal for the year is to engage students in the learning process by utilizing technology and demonstrating functional applications of classroom skills in real-world settings.  English education should not only focus on classic literature and creative writing but also teach students to communicate ideas in practical ways, enabling them to find success in any field they choose to pursue.  I hope to challenge students' critical thinking skills, encourage meaningful collaboration and innovation in and out of the classroom, and enrich worldviews through exposure to timeless literary works.

I can't wait to see what the year has in store.  Let's get started!
