*七年級FRP教學內容與進度概述
7th Grade Mathematics Textbook: Algebra 1, McGrawHill Education/ Geometry, Holt Course Objectives: This class is designed to develop the students’ ability to use the English language in the context of mathematics while also promoting a deeper understanding of mathematics, especially applications in mathematics. Additionally, this course should begin to prepare students for standardized testing in mathematics like the SSAT and ISEE. Important Note: This course is NOT a course that exclusively teaches the concepts of algebra. This is a course that assumes the student has the basic knowledge and understanding of algebra. This course will prepare the student with the proper English language skills to discuss concepts in algebra and deepen the students’ understanding of the subject. Grading: Homework 30%, Quizzes 30%, Projects 30%, Participation 10%. Homework: Short homework assignments will be given after each class. These homework assignments will primarily consist of word problems and reading assignments. Quizzes: Quizzes will be given weekly. Quizzes will focus on understanding deﬁnitions and short word problems. Projects: Projects will be regularly assigned throughout the school year. Projects will often take the form of oral presentations and focus on developing a deeper understanding of mathematics and studying more complex problems. Participation: Participation is imperative for improvement of language skills and effective learning. Students will be expected to actively participate in class discussions and assignments. In particular, students will regularly be given reading assignments as homework. These reading assignments are highly important as they will prepare students to have informative discussions in class. 年級社會學科 7th Grade Social Studies Textbook: Modern World History  Patterns of Interaction by Holt McDougal Course Objectives: In this course, you will learn: 1. The history of various peoples, cultures and movements that shaped the world from 1300 up until the present time. 2. English vocabulary to be able to describe the events you are learning about. 3. How to evaluate historical sources and gain information from them. 4. How to express what you have learned in written form (example essays) and verbal form (example presentations). Course Outline: In this class we will be studying the history of people all around the world and how they interacted with each other. We will start with the 1300 s, before Columbus discovered the Americas and we will continue until the 1800 s talking about some of the revolutions that changed the world to ﬁnish the semester. Next semester we will talk about the technological advances made in the 1800 s and continue on until we get to the present world. It is impossible to cover everything that happened in 700 years in just one year, so we will attempt to cover as much as possible but will focus mainly on things that have shaped the way we live now. We will follow the outline of the book but at times we may go a different course depending on the needs of the class. We will have readings from the book but you may also be assigned other texts not from the book that we will provide for you. Participation: The purpose of this course is not only to improve the students’ understanding of World History, but to improve their grasp of the English language. There will be many unfamiliar terms and new vocabulary, and the reading in the textbook can be challenging, so it is important that the students participate and communicate their level of understanding. We will do the best we can, to ensure that the students comprehend the content but we also expect the students to be engaged in the class and do their best to absorb what’s being taught. The students should have no hesitation in asking for help or clariﬁcation. Our purpose as teachers is to help them understand and learn. Assignment Descriptions: Mini Quizzes: Once or twice a week, we will administer a small quiz at the end of the class to assess the students’ comprehension of the material. The average quiz will only be ﬁve questions long. At times it will be an ‘openbook’ quiz but at the teacher’s discretion. Reading Responses: Students will be required to write a short reflection occasionally, after completing a reading assignment for the class. Not more than once a week and instructions will follow in class. Presentation: Students will be required to prepare a presentation to teach the rest of the class about an assigned topic in World History. Teachers will always be available to offer support. Midterm/Final: Half way through the course and at the end of the semester the students will take exams that test their understanding of the material taught up to that point. Part of the test will be multiple choice and the other part will be descriptive. Grading: Grades will be determined as follows, Mini Quizzes 15%, Reading Responses 15%, Class Presentation 20%, Midterm 20%, Final 30%. Course Schedule:
7th Grade Science Textbook: Science, McGrawHill Education Course Objectives: We have handpicked topics from their primary science textbooks to be taught in English to ensure that students do not get frustrated by high levels of challenge. By focusing on the mastery of new vocabulary, we will be able to expound the students’ abilities to communicate their understanding of basic physical science in the English language. They will learn to read, write, and express basic scientiﬁc methods and procedures. This course will support the students’ prior knowledge of physical science without reteaching what they have already learned. By focusing on English science vocabulary we will begin to prepare students to succeed in future standardized testing such as SSAT, and ISEE. Classroom Procedures: We will use a variety of methods in order to facilitate learning science. The class assignments are level appropriate, using a range of formative assessments to ensure students’ comprehension. We understand that all students are not equal and therefore try our best to differentiate classroom instruction. A large majority of our focus will be on developing the vocabulary skills to communicate orally and in writing. We will use readings, group projects, presentations, listening activities, writing assignments, vocabulary quizzes, and tests to accomplish our objective. Participation: Participation in class will be essential for success. The more that students are willing to read outloud, complete assignments, ask questions, answer questions, and use their new English vocabulary, the more prepared they will be to utilize it in future testing situations. No cheating will be tolerated. Students attempting to submit plagiarised work for a grade will receive a 0 on that assignment. Grading: Grades will be determined as follows, Vocabulary quizzes 15%, Group projects 15%, Oral Presentations 20%, Assignments 20%, Exams 30%. Course Schedule:
7th Grade Literature Textbook: Holt McDougal Literature Grade 7 Course Objectives: This course is designed in a manner to supplement the principles being taught in the students’ primary writing and literature classes. Literature that is appropriate for their level has been chosen and the approach to the material is heuristic. Great authors’ like Langston Hughes, Shel Silverstein, William Carlos Williams etc. whose works are extremely revered, are explored in this course. We will focus on writing, reading, and oral skills in order to begin to prepare students to succeed in future standardized testing such as the GEPT, SSAT, and ISEE. Classroom Procedures: We encourage students to exercise their higher order and critical thinking skills by means of classroom discussions, debates and text analysis etc. We will focus on developing a broader understanding and transfer of knowledge including new vocabulary words, proper grammar, style, and tone. We will use readings, writing assignments, vocabulary quizzes, group projects, presentations, listening activities, and assessments to accomplish our objective. Participation: Participation in class is extremely important. The more that students are willing to read outloud, complete assignments, ask questions, answer questions, and use their new English vocabulary, the more prepared they will be to utilize it in future testing situations.
